Oregon Hunting Seasons, 2017-2018


The Pacific Northwest is known for its lush, dense forests and rainy weather, but the state of Oregon should also be known for its popularity among hunters. Within this West Coast state, hunters can bag a plethora of game, including deer, elk, bear, cougar and pronghorn. Oregon also offers several small game seasons to round out a year of hunting.

Black Bear Seasons

General Season Aug. 1-Dec. 31*

*Dates may vary in some regions of the state. Many of the state’s hunts are controlled hunts, and hunters must have permits to hunt black bears.

Cougar Seasons

General Season Jan. 1-Dec. 31

Cougar seasons run until Dec. 31 or until area hunting quotas are met. It is unlawful to take spotted kittens or female cougars with spotted kittens.
