South Dakota Hunting Seasons, 2016-2017


You many not have known it, but South Dakota is home to an expansive list of game animals. South Dakota hunting seasons include antelope, deer, elk, turkey, mountain lions and a selection of small game. Many of these seasons are restricted to South Dakota residents only.

South Dakota hunting licenses and park entrance permits can be purchased online. Additionally beneficial, the state offers a Volunteer Hunter program, which pairs hunters with landowners wishing to maintain property herd and flock sizes.

Mountain Lion Season

Land outside the Black Hills Fire Protection District Open Season
Black Hills Area Dec. 26-Mar. 31 or when harvest limit is hit

*South Dakota’s mountain lion season is restricted to state residents only. Permits are required to bag mountain lions. Hunters should check the online harvest status before heading out to ensure the season is still open.
